Hai Long Project Conducts 1st Cut of Steel for Foundations Fabrication at Samkang’s Sub-assembly Shop in Korea

Hai Long Offshore Wind Project and Samkang M&T Co., Ltd. held the ceremonial first cut of steel at Samkang's sub-assembly shop in Korea on 17th January 2023, marking another critically important milestone of the Project’s manufacturing phase. According to the project timeline, the offshore installation will be carried out in 2024-2025, followed by commissioning and grid connection in 2025-2026.

In August 2022, Hai Long and Samkang entered a Jackets Fabrication Contract, by which Samkang M&T will supply a total of 52 jacket foundations by December 2024. The jacket foundations exceed 93 meters in height and weigh well over 2,000 tons with all supporting equipment. These jackets will be the largest foundations implemented thus far in Taiwan’s nascent offshore wind industry, supporting the industry leading 14MW wind turbines that will be installed in Hai Long.

During the ceremony, Hai Long EPCI Director Frank Spee pressed the start button of the plasma cutter together with Samkang CEO Seung Cheol Lee. This signifies the positive synergy to come in the next two –years of the Project.

Spee said, "The first cut of steel for these jackets marks an important milestone for the Hai Long project, as it signals the start of a critically important fabrication workstream for our project. Starting the fabrication in line with our original manufacturing schedules is important for future success in project installation, and we look forward to seeing these jackets become a reality. I would like to thank our partner Samkang for their hard work so far and express our confidence in Samkang delivering these jackets on schedule, and to the quality- and safety standards the offshore wind industry requires."

Lee said, “We will take our steps during our journey with “full commitment to our environment” and we will pursue “a better future for all”.  In the workplace, we will have a smile, but we are truly spearheads and warriors fighting to stop global warming in our workplace.  We should all have pride in this.”
