Hai Long Team Join Forces to Safeguard the Hidden Gem of Changhua's Shengang Township

Changhua's Shengang Wetlands, known as the "homeland of fiddler crabs," harbor rich biodiversity. However, continuous accumulation of marine waste has posed a concealed threat to the wetland. To promote the sustainability of the beautiful ocean, the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project (the Hai Long Project) has been rallying colleagues for seven consecutive years, encouraging them to engage with, embrace, and safeguard the ocean. Through practical beach cleaning actions, the Hai Long Project hopes to persist in protecting Changhua's vast coastline.

Over the weekend, the Hai Long Project, led by Executive Vice President Jun Tamura, mobilized over 50 volunteer colleagues and their families to join Changhua residents in cleaning up marine debris at the Shengang Wetlands. The event also featured marine environmental education sessions conducted by the Hiin Studio team, with the goal of imparting each participant with correct concepts of marine conservation and daily plastic reduction practices.

The Hai Long colleagues participating in the beach cleanup shared: "We have been participating in this initiative continuously for seven years since 2018, without interruption even during pregnancy. As a new mother, this marks the first time I invited my husband and daughter to join me in beach cleanup, allowing our child to witness firsthand our dedication to marine environmental protection through our actions. The significance of beach cleanup goes beyond removing litter; it involves understanding the types and sources of beach waste and reflecting on our daily habits to reduce the use of single-use plastic products, ultimately contributing positive changes to ocean conservation!"

During the beach cleaning, even the youngest volunteers from the Hai Long team diligently picked up litter. Despite getting covered in mud, their faces still beamed with a sense of accomplishment. After a morning of hard work, the Hai Long Project collectively removed a total of 168 kilograms of man-made waste (general waste: 133 kilograms / recyclable waste: 35 kilograms). Witnessing the restored cleanliness of the beach filled each participant with emotion. The Hai Long team members said, "It's truly rewarding! We didn't just take away trash; we also gained valuable environmental knowledge and were able to share the results of our actions to protect the ocean with our colleagues."

Jun Tamura, Executive Vice President of the Hai Long Project, stated: "The Hai Long Project is currently one of the largest wind farms in Taiwan. In addition to wind farm development, Hai Long prioritizes ecological conservation and environmental sustainability. This marks our seventh year of actively protecting the ocean through tangible actions. Apart from contributing to Taiwan's sustainable development, we aspire to instill environmental awareness in the next generation through environmental education. Our goal is to perpetuate the ethos of environmental sustainability for generations to come."
