For the first time, the Hai Long Offshore Wind project team organized, along with their Sponsors and advisors, an “Hai Long Offshore Wind Bankers' Forum”, providing in-depth presentations around Technical, Environmental, Insurance, Legal, and Permit aspects of the project to an audience of 20 local financial institutions, including state-owned banks, commercial banks, and life insurance companies.
The Hai Long Offshore Wind project team invited representatives from Sponsors, the project's advisors, as well as local financial institutions. Together they went into an active dialog about the project's due diligence package.
The positive feedback received from this "Banker’s Forum" highlights the importance of participation from local financial institutions in the development of the Offshore Wind industry in Taiwan. I am convinced this event highlighted the importance of Offshore Wind in Taiwan’s energy transition. I look forward to seeing more local financial institutions participate in the development of the Offshore Wind Industry in Taiwan," said David Povall, Executive Vice President, Development of Northland Power, and Chairman of the Board of the Hai Long Project
Mitsui's representative of the Hai Long Project, Manager Yuichiro Narita, who flew to Taiwan from Tokyo to attend the Seminar, which shows that the developer highly values the Project, continued, "Currently, Mitsui is actively developing its renewable energy business. Taiwan is undoubtedly a key focus area, with Hai Long Offshore Wind Project being one of Mitsui's most important investments in Taiwan. Today's strong support from the Taiwan banking sector further enhances our determination to invest in Taiwan."
So Hagiwara, Deputy Chief Financial and Administration Officer of the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project Organization, added, "Receiving such positive feedback from the local financial institutions at the Bankers' Forum was a big encouragement to the Sponsors and the project team. Many representatives informed us afterward that listening to the well-organized presentations, and seeing the commitment and sincerity from the Sponsors, gave them additional confidence in this project, whereas the materials provided will help their internal credit analysis."
The Hai Long Offshore Wind Project is located off the coast of Changhua County, including Hai Long 2A (300MW), 2B (232MW), and 3 (512MW). These projects are developed together by Northland Power, YuShan Energy, and Mitsui.
The offshore construction work of the Hai Long Offshore Wind Project will start in 2024. The project will be able to provide over 1GW of clean energy to more than 1 million households. The allocated capacity totals 1,044MW and is expected to reach COD in 2026, and will be the biggest single offshore wind project in Taiwan, once in operation.
